Not so spooky last night

Maybe it was because of the Sunday night gap between then and real Halloween in the middle of the coming week, but there was a disappointing lack of dressing up in Kilcullen last night, writes Brian Byrne.

We missed the costume craic evident in all the local pubs in previous years, and which just didn't happen last evening even when most of them had offered good prizes for best costumes and similar.

Which is not to say that there wasn't a lot happening. Everywhere was busy, business jumping.

The Diary got costume pics in McTernans, The Spout, and The Hideout during our perambulations. The best were, in fairness, in The Hideout where Carmel and the staff particularly had put in a great effort to get everyone into the spirit of the occasion.

The Spout's result was best exemplified by the band, Badge, without doubt the entertainment toppers of the night at their most professional which deserves not national, but international recognition. Two out of the four performed in disguise. Didn't matter, just great performances from all.

Well, I suppose the real spooks will have it to themselves on Wednesday night …
