The Dunlavin Flower and Harvest Festival is taking place in the town through next weekend, writes Brian Byrne.

The Catholic and Church of Ireland churches will be the venues for the Festival exhibits, on which judging will take place in private during the Friday afternoon.

The Festival opens at 7.30pm with the Harvest Service in St Nicholas Church of Ireland, which will be followed by tea and coffee.

On Saturday and Sunday 13/14 both churches will be open for visitation. Exhibits can be viewed in St Nicholas Church of Ireland from 11am on the Saturday until 5pm, and from 12 noon until 6pm on the Sunday.

Visitors can access St Nicholas of Myra Catholic church on Saturday and Sunday from 9.30am, until 9pm on the Saturday and 6pm on the Sunday.

The closing Harvest Service will be held in St Nicholas of Myra church at 3pm on the Sunday, followed by tea and coffee.

There is also a business windows competition, judging of which will take place on Thursday 11 October from 4pm.

A book by Chris Lawlor, 'With Much Quiet Fervour', will be launched during the festival. His previous publications include 'The Little Book' series on Kildare and Wicklow, as well as a number of history books related to events in Dunlavin.
