Summer Concert Series in Kildare Cathedral

A Summer Concert Series in St Brigid's Cathedral, Kildare, over the next few weeks will be of interest to anyone who likes church and classical organ music, writes Brian Byrne.

The Friday night recitals will begin at 7pm on 10, 24 and 31 August, with tickets available at the door for €10. (NOTE: This piece has been changed with a corrected starting time.)

The first of the series, on 10 August, will be 'Pipes and Bows', featuring the music of Josef Gabriel Rheinberger and Marco Enrico Bossi. The performance will be by Thomas Charles Marshall (organ), Bogdan Sofei (violin) and Adele O'Dwyer (cello).

On 24 August, there will be 'A Choral Celebration' with the Choir of the Church of Christ the King, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, conducted by Wolfgang Weiss. Simon Harden will play the organ, and works performed will include pieces by Bruckner, Elgar, Howells and Tallis.

'The Lone Piper' on 31 August will feature music from the last four centuries played by organist Simon Harden, with works by Bach, Mozart and Ritter.
