Photo memories events for National Heritage Week

This collage is from the Kilcullen Gathering Heritage Collection.
Two 'Meitheal of Memories' events in Kilcullen Heritage Centre on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 August is for people to bring photos relating to Kilcullen and tell the stories behind them, writes Brian Byrne.

The free events are part of National Heritage Week, which runs from 18-26 August.

The organisers will scan or photograph the relevant pictures and return them to the owners immediately. Anyone who wants a digital copy of the picture can have it by bringing a USB memory stick with them.

The event runs from 11am-1pm on the Wednesday and 7pm-9pm on the Thursday.

'End of Days, 1918' is another Kilcullen event for Heritage Week, on the evening of 22 August. This will be a talk by Kildare historian James Durney about the end of WW1 a hundred years ago, and will take place in Kilcullen Community Library from 7.30pm. Admission is free. It is not suitable for children under 12.

Heritage Week is coordinated by the Heritage Council and Local Authority Heritage Officers. It is supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and Fáilte Ireland.

A free guide to all events in County Kildare will be available from Wednesday in local libraries.
