The passing of Mairead O'Modhrain
The Diary has learned with sadness of the death of Mairead O'Modhrain (née O'Connor) of Ballysax, The Curragh,
Mairead passed away peacefully, surrounded by members of her loving family and in the wonderful care of the staff of the Imaal Ward, Naas General Hospital.
Beloved wife of the late Lughaidh and loving mother of Eamonn, Cormac, Lughaidh, Síle and Maeve, she is sadly missed by her sons and daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchild, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces and nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Mairead is reposing at her family home from 4pm today Wednesday, with Rosary at 8pm. Removal will take place on Thursday morning to arrive at St Brigid's Church, The Curragh Camp, for Requiem Mass at 11. Burial will be afterwards in Holy Cross Cemetery, Suncroft.
House private on Thursday morning please. Family flowers only.
Donations, if desired, to The Kildare Branch of St Vincent De Paul, for which purp[ose there will be a donations box in church.
May she rest in peace.
(Note: Mairead worked for a time as a pharmacist in Kilcullen, and later became a journalist. In that latter capacity she many decades ago selected an early 'Bridge' feature by this writer for an award, unwittingly helping to propel me eventually out of the life of a publican and into a career as a journalist.)
