Kilcullen parishioners contributed €23,296 to the Dublin Diocese Share Collection in 2016, writes Brian Byrne.

The Share Collection is the second one taken at Sunday masses in churches throughout the Diocese, and the total amount raised during that year was almost €6.3m, from some 220 parishes.

The money is used, inter alia, to provide funds to parishes which need financial assistance, and almost €1.3m of the funds collected in 2016 was distributed in this way to 30 parishes. The balance was used for a range of Diocesan support services and initiatives such as funding pastoral workers, faith development, child safeguarding, evangelisation, and church and parish centre repairs.

It is a matter of concern in the Diocese that the average weekly Share collection has declined from €144,000 to €128,000.

Details are available in the latest Share Newsletter, available in Kilcullen Parish Church.
