Not yet a 'normal' day

Look, there has been some stupid speedy driving in the fog on the M9 this morning, so if you are on the road pull back from the vehicle in front and drive more slowly, writes Brian Byrne at 11:10 (Final update from 09:08, 07:55, 07:29).

The M7 is clear with two lanes operating both sides, but busy and a little slow, understandably. No problems getting to Dublin.

Earlier this morning, AA Roadwatch reported that a breakdown on the M7 northbound between J10 and J9 Naas has been cleared. Traffic remains heaviest on this route from J11 M9 to J9 Naas North and then it's busy to J8 Johnstown.

Kildare County Council issued an advisory last evening that many roads around Naas are still in a treacherous condition, in particular the ring road from the Newbridge Road to the Monread Roundabout, the Kilcullen road into Naas and the Naas to Newbridge dual carriageway.

While main roads in the south of the county have all been cleared with the help of Council contractors and volunteers from the farming community, there are still back roads that may be treacherous or impassable, especially towards the Wicklow border, so take it carefully. If you know of anyone still stranded in their homes, contact whatever services seem to be suitable, or get a neighbour to help.

Motorists are reminded to continue to drive with extreme caution as the road width is reduced in places, in many cases down to one lane. And remember, if you're driving alongside banks of cleared snow, be aware that some might slip unexpectedly as a result of the thaw and damper conditions.
