'Blessing of the Baskets' this afternoon

The traditional Polish Holy Saturday 'Blessing of the Baskets' will be celebrated in Kilcullen Parish Church at 2pm this afternoon, writes Brian Byrne.

The blessing will be given by Fr Niall Mackey on behalf of parishioners from Poland.

Known in their native language as Święconka, the blessing dates back to the early history of Poland, and is particularly beloved of expatriates and descendants of Polish immigrants in many countries.

Everybody in the community is welcome to join in with our Polish neighbours for this beautiful ceremony.
