Better broadband on the way for Kilcullen's outlying areas

The Green Road, Mile Mill and Brannockstown can expect to have significant improvements in their broadband services by the end of next year, writes Brian Byrne.

The latest interactive map produced by the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment shows, in light blue, new areas where commercial operators have committed to concrete plans to deliver high speed broadband in rural areas.

The commercial rollout to these areas is primarily Fibre to the Home (FTTH).

The dark blue area shows where commercial operators are delivering or have indicated plans to deliver high speed broadband services.

The remaining amber areas are the target areas for the State Intervention of the National Broadband Plan. The Mobile Phone and Broadband Taskforce has identified measures in the short term to improve broadband connectivity including in the Amber areas and work is underway to implement these measures.

Last week, Deputy Martin Heydon reported on a new agreement between the Department’s Minister Denis Naughten TD and Eir, which will provide broadband to 5,369 premises by the end of 2018. in Kildare South including large parts of Narraghmore, Calverstown, Allenwood South and Maganey.
