KBC proving a hard place to visit ...
An extremely busy four days for the club between 24 October and 28 October with a total of nine matches played, writes Kilcullen Badminton Club PRO Enda O'Neill.
First match we cover was Jennifier's Grade 4 Ladies SWL team who visitied Annacurra on 24 October. The ladies needed a win to ensure a semi final place but knew that this was going to be a tough test. The Anncurra ladies had visited KBC two weeks previous and defeated the Kilcullen girls 4-2 in a great match. Unfortunatley the tides didn’t change in this match and Annacurra again beat the Kilcullen outfit 4-2. All is not lost for Jen and her team though and they still have one to play. If they win their last match it will put the girls into a semi final. Good luck to Jen, Kathrin Logan, Pam Kelly and Sarah Walshe in their final group game against Ballinabranna next week.
Friday 28 October Kasi Vallinayagam and his high flyers hosted Bough in their Grade 5 SWL match. Kasi and his team have been unstoppable this season so far, winning all their group matches. The lads were determined to keep their 100 percent record but had to call in sub Fintan Phelan for this match as Ben Phelan (no relation!) was out injured. The Kilcullen team crushed Bough 6-0 in a one sided affair. Well done Kas, Ross Cole, Oisin Egan and super sub Fintan on a masterclass of badminton. The lads now will have to wait and see who they will meet in the semi finals next month.
Owen Wallace and his Grade 3 Mens A team also were hosts on Friday 28 October to group chasers Balinabranna. Owens team were unfortunate when they travelled to Ballinabranna and lost out 4-2 in a tight match and its fair to say that they wanted to reverse that result. The KBC men did it in style beating Ballinabranna 6-0. This win puts Owens men top of the table and also keeps the two Kilcullen Grade 3 mens teams at the opposite end of the semi final draw. At the moment its looking like Owens team will face Kildare in their semi final while Vincent Collers team will play Carlow YM. Owen and his team still has one match left against Carlow YM so good luck to Owen, Barry O’Neill, Martin Carrigan and Mick Cass in their final group match.
One Dublin District League match to cover with Ray Daltons Division 5 Mix team playing in the first round of the cup away against ESB. Division 5 is proving to be a different animal for Ray and his team who won the Division 6 Cup last year. KBC lost this match 3-0 and are disappointed to be knocked out of the cup at an early stage. Hard luck Ray, Bernie Smith, Sarah Walshe and Vincent Coller but look on the bright side, now you can concentrate on the league and get the spark back into the team!
