December music in Kilcullen Parish Church

There's a feast of music scheduled in Kilcullen Parish Church for December, writes Brian Byrne, much of it designed to raise the community Christmas Spirit.

The annual Christmas Choral Concert on 2 December in Kilcullen Parish Church will feature the Millicent Singers (above) directed by Alan Kelly, the Gormanstown Choir directed by Dorly O'Sullivan, and visiting choirs Inceolo from Newbridge and the Curragh Parish Choir directed by Aidan Feeley.

Young local musician Ella Fallon, a Leaving Cert student from CPC last year and now studying music in DIT and is an organ scholar with Simon Harding, will also perform, as will Dean Phillip Knowles. Tickets are €10 and available in the Parish Centre, or phone Peter Moloney at 087 8172489. Last year's Concert raised €1,100 for the Parish Church Organ Fund.

The Kilcullen Lions Club Meals on Wheels service will benefit from the Carols by Candlelight concert in Kilcullen Parish Church on Thursday 8 December.

Award-winning tenor Patrick Hyland (right) will join the Cross & Passion College Choir, and the Kilcullen Gospel Choir (above) for the event. Patrick was awarded the best Irish singer at the prestigious Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition in 2016. He has performed at the Wexford Festival Opera, RTE CO, Lyric Opera and the Cork Opera House. He is a recipient of a bursary from the Count John McCormack Society and is a former Opera Theatre Young Associate Artist.

Tickets at €10 are available from Berneys Chemist, Hair by Eilis, The Mall or any Gospel Choir Member.

The Parish Carol Service is on Saturday 17 December, also in the Parish Church, and will feature the Gormanstown and Dunlavin choirs. It starts at 8pm and donations for the Organ Fund will be appreciated.
