Tight competition at Blue Box 10-second challenge
The O’Connells Bar team ‘Drug Free’ were the winners of last night’s ’10 Second Cycle Challenge’ held in conjunction with the Big Blue Box fundraising event for the Irish Heart Foundation, writes Brian Byrne.
There were seven teams in total for the Challenge, which measured each rider’s maximum speed in terms of rpm on the stationary training bicycle outside the Bank of Ireland.
Second in the scoring were the Mile Mill ‘Stray Dogs’, followed by joint third Bardons ‘The Doggers’ and McTernan’s ‘Mac’s 4’.
The Big Blue Box cycling group will head off on its next leg at 11am today, bringing a replica of the Old Kilcullen Round Tower to Athy. The vintage nicycle with the Box will be pedalled into Athy by Tom Shaw of Bank of Ireland Kilcullen.
Bank of Ireland will match all funds collected by the initiative, which ends in Kilkenny on Friday when the two groups touring Ireland’s Ancient East routes meet up.
