Social Media Challenges for Parents

Dr Maureen Griffin, Forensic Psychologist, will visit Scoil Bhríde Kilcullen during our upcoming Friendship Week (Sept 26-30) to speak on ‘Social Media: Challenges for Parents’, writes the school’s Principal Anne Flanagan.

The talk will be presented to pupils, teachers and parents on Wednesday 28 September 2016 at 7.30pm and everybody is welcome to attend. Attendance is free.

Issues such as Social Networking Sites, Messaging, Cyber Bullying and many more will be addressed.

Dr Griffin will provide an overview of what is currently popular among Irish students, what the potential dangers are and offer practical advice on how to protect children when they are online or using their mobile devices. These issues are very topical and current and we need to be mindful of the effects and repercussions on children and the relationships of their online activity.

Dr Griffin has visited hundreds of schools across Ireland speaking to students, staff and parents regarding issues around social media, internet and mobile phone safety. This issue is very relevant because of the dangers of social media and in particular cyber bullying which is of concern to every parent.

Dr Griffin’s talk will last about an hour with a Q & A session afterwards. Her talks are highly informative and helpful and attendance will be of benefit to you and your child now and in the future.
