KCA to survey sustainable energy opportunities

Kilcullen Community Action is to appoint a project manager to identify areas where the town can benefit from renewable energy programmes, writes Brian Byrne.

This was decided at a recent meeting of KCA, the umbrella group for Tidy Towns and other community initiatives.

It follows a call by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland for community groups to join its dedicated Sustainable Energy Communities network.

An SEC can comprise all the different energy users in the community including homes, sports clubs, community centres, churches and businesses.

Being part of the SEC network provides groups with the opportunity to share knowledge and insight and to meet with other members who are carrying out a diversity of energy efficiency projects

Is operated by 'Champions' from SECs who set up special events and programmes, and membership also enables groups to access relevant technical supports and funding through SEAI.

KCA will undertake the survey in tandem with other works under the Sustainable Waste & Resource Management element of its Tidy Towns Action Plan.
