Kilcullen are badminton Leinster Champions
It has been an exceptional weekend for the club with three Kilcullen teams representing the Dublin District League in the Inter League Cup, the venue Whitehall Road.
The Inter League Cup is a competition where all the Cup Champions represent their districts vying to win an All Ireland Club Championship.
Lynsey's Grade 2 Mix were first out in the semis, playing to Meath League Cup winners Boyne, the KBC outfit didn’t have the luck required on this occasion and were beaten 5-3. Hard luck to Lynsey and the gang but well done in getting so far in the competition.
In the Grade 5 Mix were Catherine Dalton's team who played Meath team Navan in their semi final clash. Catherine's team put up a great fight in their games but were missing two of their regular players due to other commitments. This doesn’t take away from the two brilliant subs Olivier and Sudeer, who gave up their Sunday to represent their club. Hard luck to Catherine and her team.
Ray's Grade 4 Mix had better luck in their Leinster quest, in the semis they met again the Meath Grade 4 cup champions Athboy/Kells and in a tight match the KBC outfit beat their Meath counterparts 5-3 putting them into the Leinster Finals to play the SWL representatives Roundwood of Wicklow. In this intense final the match went down to the wire, with two games to go Kilcullen were 4-2 and needed just one game to clinch the title. Both the mix 3 and mix 4 pairings needed to play their games to decide the outcome. Jen and Enda won their game 2-0, while Sarah and John Healy got the other set required to be certain of the victory. Well done to Leinster Champs Ray, Siobhan, Tara, Jen, Sarah, John, Enda and sub for the day John Healy. All I can say is roll on the All Irelands which will be played on the weekend of May the 8th. A big thank you from Ray's team goes out to all the supporters that stayed to cheer the team on, Murt, Dave J, Sinead, Kath, Caroline, Catherine D and anyone else that I forgot to mention,
In other news the Dublin District League Quarter Finals were played on Thursday 7 and Sat April 9 in Baldoyle and true to form KBC had teams fighting to make the semi final spots. Mari and her Division 8 Ladies played a tough Stadmullen team who had only dropped one set on their way to the semis. In the first game a three setter Mari and Pam took it two sets to one after loosing the first 21-18. The second game was taken in two sets by Emer and Orla winning the second 24-22. Mari and Emer were unlucky in the third game and lost two sets to one but Pam and Orla sealed the deal winning their game and giving the KBC team a great 3-1 victory, Well done Mari, Pam, Orla and Emer and good luck in the semis.
