National gold in Athlone AIT for Keenan
These are headlines we have seen so many times in recent years for David's dad Albert. This time around, Kilcullen man David Keenan took the headlines in Athlone AIT yesterday, racing over the maximum indoor distance of 3,000 metres. David, running in his Newbridge AC singlet was crowned Irish over-40 indoor champion 2016.
This was David's fifth National medal in less than two years but his first as an individual with the others coming as part of his Newbridge AC club team. David put in a lot of hard work over the winter racing through a successful cross county season and will now take in some road races before preparing for a summer track season.
Albert cheekily posted on a congratulatory Newbridge AC post about David's success: "It gets a lot easier as you get older, you're only starting, really good work, well done."
Wise words from father to son, and Albert should know given his recent achievements.
A huge congratulations to David on this big win and national gold medal. Long may the success continue.
