Kilcullen Badminton update
A busy week for Kilcullen Badminton Club players this week with South West and Dublin District League matches being played.
Firstly we start with Caroline and the DDL Division 4 Mix 3 team who travelled to Dublin to play table toppers Eire Friends on March 15. This was always going to be a tough match and unfortunately it wasn’t to be Caroline's night and they lost in a competitive match 3-1. This defeat however does put the team out of the running to make the Quarter Finals. Hard luck to the guys but they still have it all to play for in the Grade 3 SWL cup.
Mike and the DDL Division 8 Men were also away on the same night and again KBC suffered another defeat this time to the team in Skerries. The lads didn't get going in this difficult venue and were beaten in a one sided affair, 4-0. Hard luck to Mike and the lads.
On 16 March Ray and his Grade 4 Mix League champions decided to try their luck in the South West Grade 3 Cup and in a tight match away to Carlow YM were beaten 5-3 with the match going all the way to the last mix. Ray and the team can feel a little unlucky with the result as if it had been a 4-4 draw KBC would have won it on sets, but those are the breaks in sport. Hard luck to the squad who will play on Tuesday night in the SWL Grade 4 Cup. If they can progress to the final and win it this will be the double for the Club in the Grade 4 Mix.
Murt and his Mens 1 team had a fantastic night when they travelled to South County Dublin who play in Whitehall road. Murt and the team had a fantastic 4-0 win which puts them in serious contention in making it to the knock out stages. Well done to Murt, Declan, Eoin and Gareth on a great win.
Jen's Division 6 Mix also played their second last group match at home to ESB and this game was ELECTRIC!!! Jen and the team needed a win to keep them in second place and keep the pressure on third place Knocklyon and top of the table Sheriff Street. Jen and the gang didn’t disappoint and won 3-1 leaving them two points behind Sheriff Street. The top of this table is not decided yet as both Knocklyon and Sheriff have to play each other, While KBC play bottom of the table Rolestown at home in their last game. If Jen and the squad can avoid defeat they will make it to the knockout rounds. Well done to Jen, Tara, John and John McEnroe....sorry, I meant Enda.
Finally some other results:
Mix 1 DDL beat Portarlington 4-0 at home.
Ladies 1 DDL Div 2 beat Boyne 4-4 away.
St Patrick's Day Tourney: Kat and Tara, Division 5 Champs; Division 7 R/Up. Orla and Emer; Division 6 R/Up, Kat and Enda.
