Gormanstown Church to get new organ
Gormanstown church is to get the organ from the former Dominican Church in Athy, which closed last November.
The acquisition is due to the efforts of Peter Moloney, a past pupil of Dominican College Newbridge, who has maintained strong connections with the Dominican order.
The 60-years-old church was purchased for community use by Kildare County Council and the organ is surplus to the Council's requirements.
Peter (pictured above playing the organ in St John's Church, Yellow Bog) negotiated the deal with Fr Pat Carroll, Provincial of the Dominican Order in Ireland; Fr John Walsh, Prior of the Athy community; and Peter Carey of KCC.
The transfer of the organ will be carried out during coming months under the supervision of Peter, and Paul McKeever, organist at St Kevin's Church in Harrington St, Dublin.
The instrument will enhance the musical experience in Gormanstown, which has its own choir who perform there on Sundays.
