Mark lights switch-on in your calendar now
The switch on of the Kilcullen Christmas lights this year will be a fun affair on Friday 4 December, writes Brian Byrne.
Santa will be along for the occasion, which switches on at 6.30pm, and there will be goodies from the Kalbarri Cookery School. The children from the Kilcullen Community Childcare Centre are making the decorations for the tree, and seasonal music will be provided by children from the Scoil Bhride School Choir, along with some members of the KIlcullen Gospel Choir.
Entertainment will also be provided by students of Drama Dynamics, and there will also be bell ringing input from Bridge Camphill.
There has been a huge drive this year by Kilcullen Community Action to fund and buy new lights for the display, and there was a tremendously generous response from individuals and businesses to the effort, as well as a good grant from Kildare County Council. Particular mention must be made to thanks Antoinette Buckley and Shirley Havanagh-Hallion for their work with the business community.
The result is that there will be a really good display of lights this year and the organisers are hoping for a big turnout of families for the switch-on. It's coming up fast, Friday week, so mark it big in your calendar.
