Badminton update

There is so much to cover this week that if I was to try get every match in I’d probably clog up the web! In this mid weeks news we will just cover the two finals that Kilcullen were involved in on Thursday 19 November and Friday 20 November.

We will start with the latter and Martin and his Grade 3 Men who played their South West League Finals in Carlow. In their first season together the lads got off to a shakey start loosing their first group match against their final opponents Kildare, they quickly shook off that defeat and won the remainder of the matches in their group. The KBC lads qualified for the finals thanks to that winning streak and by topping their group. So on Friday 20 November Martin, Vincent, Owen and sub Ray travelled to meet the team who they had lost to in their first match. The guys got off to a perfect start winning the first mens but dropping a set in the process. The second game didnt go the lads way and they lost in two sets. KBC picked it up in the third game in two sets leaving it down to the last game, if Kildare won the fouth mens in two sets they would take the title back to Kildare. Alas after Kilcullen loosing the first set 21-19, they also lost the second set in a tie-break 22-20 giving the Kildare lads the win by just one set. Hard luck to Martin, Vincent, Owen and sub Ray on a great performance and a fantastic debut season.

On Thursday 19 November another KBC team ventured to the netural venue of Carlow for the Ladies Grade 5 South West league Ladies Final. Kath and her team cruised through their group again only loosing one of their group matches. The opponents for this final was Bough of Baltinglass again the team that had beaten the KBC Ragettes in the group stages. The Kilcullen girls weren't however going to let this one slip, Kat and Mari won their ladies in two sets, second ladies of Catherine and Emer played and won their game in two sets. So it was up to Mari and Emer to clinch the match and they did it in style again winning in two and taking the title back to Kilcullen, big congrats to the Kilcullen Grade 5 Ladies Champions captain kat, Emer, Orla and Catherine on an amazing debut season.

Other results in Murt and the Grade 2 mens beat Carlow away 4-0 to place themselves in the semi final, Ray and the Grade 4 Mix won their first league match 8-0 again away to Carlow and finally Jen’s Division 6 got their Dublin District league off to a flying start beating ESB 3-1 in the mixed league.
Up the Rags!!
