Make Kilcullen sparkle
The drive towards a much improved Christmas lights show for Kilcullen this year is being led by local business women Antoinette Buckley and Shirley Kavanagh-Hallion, writes Brian Byrne.
Under the banner of 'Get your Sparkle on, people', they are encouraging those in their own business community as well as social and leisure organisations to chip in with both funding and practical help in organising this year's display.
"Volunteers work tirelessly to keep Kilcullen such a beautiful town, from the fantastic flowers to freshly painted metal work throughout the town," says Antoinette, co-owner of the Shabby Chic shop on Hillcrest, beside Shirley's Secret Kloset women's fashion wear boutique. "All of these very generous people give up so much of their time to help make Kilcullen the unique small town that it is, let's support them, please."
The lights project is managed by Kilcullen Community Action, and the cause this year has just received a welcome boost by way of a grant from Kildare County Council.
