Kilcullen Badminton update
A clatter of South West League matches to cover this week and we start with Sinead's Grade 2 Ladies who currently sit top of their table with seven points from a possible eight. On Tuesday 20th October they travelled to Carlow YM who are currently bitting at their heals. Sinead and the girls didn’t disappoint and trashed the Carlow outfit 4-0 on their home turf, well done Sinead, Gillian, Lynsey and Annette. This hat trick of victories which now surely puts the girls into a South West semi final.
Following the girls “up to Carlow” were Martin's Grade 3 Men, Martin and the lads wanted to improve on their previous defeat to Kildare against a young Carlow LT team. The lads came away with a great 3-1 victory which keeps them in the Hunt for that semi final spot. Well done on a great away result to Martin, Vincent, Michael and Owen.
Kat and her Grade 5 ladies hosted Athy also on Tuesday night in the first of their two fixtures for this week and were looking to keep their 100 per cent record intact. In a great performance the girls didn’t even drop a set and came away with a great 4-0 victory. In their second match away to Bough of Wicklow on Thursday 22 Oct, the ladies didn’t have it all their own way and were beaten 3-1 in a hard fought match. Even with this result Kats team are still in a very strong position so well done to Kat, Mari, Emer and Catherine.
Enda and the Grade 4 men travelled to play a young Killoughy side which with their combined ages would still be younger than the oldest member on KBC’s grade 4 mens, that’s you John by the way! Enda and the team were looking for their first win in the group, the lads had previously drawn with Kildare at home and were unlucky in the return fixture in Kildare going down 4-0 in a tense and tight match. Unfortunately a win eluded the lads on this occasion but they did manage a 2-2 draw. The champs are still in with a chance if they can beat Kiloughy at home, as Murt would say “#pressureboys!” Hard luck and well done on a draw in a tough venue to Enda, John, Ray and Oisin.
The final game we cover saw David's men out against Portarlington in the complex, the lads have yet to be beaten and the other teams in the group will have to wait a little longer for it. David J and the Grade 2 mens beat Port 3-1. This result keeps them top of the Grade 2 table with the semi final a certainty, great play by David J, Murt, Eoin and Gareth. We may start calling David's team, Daves Destroyers with the form that they've hit.
Finally a big congrats to Tara O'Neill and John Mullen (pictured), recent winners of the Grade 4 Midlands Open Finals.
