CPC revises admissions policy

With increasing demand for second level education places in mid-Kildare, Cross & Passion College has revised its admissions policy, writes Brian Byrne.

The College has established a points allocation system through which priority will be established on requests for places should the number of applicants exceed the number of places available. CPC has already increased its First Year places for the 2015/2016 school year to 144.

In a statement, the Board of the College says the changes have been made with a view to offering greater clarity to the parents/guardians of prospective applicants. The policy was ratified on 18 August, and the Board says it remains committed to the principles of equity and transparency in its endeavours to provide the best-possible education to the children of Kilcullen and its environs.

The full statement is published below, and the full policy may be accessed here on the College website.

The policy document details the procedures for enrolment, criteria for acceptance and how the points system will work if required, and the College's procedures for enrolling students with special educational needs.

In includes a boundary map which is essentially the Kilcullen & Gormanstown Parish area, plus a number of townlands which have traditional associations with CPC.

In the points system, pupils with siblings currently attending the College are positively weighted. Prospective pupils from the three parish national schools also get a higher number of points than from six other primary schools which are traditionally 'feeder' schools to CPC.

Statement to accompany issue of revised Admissions Policy

Cross and Passion College has had a significant increase in the number of applicants for admission to First year over the past two years. Last year, to meet this demand, the Board of Management agreed to increase the intake for the school year 2015-2016 to 144.

The continuing demand for places has also prompted the Board to focus with renewed vigour on future development needs of the College and to review its Admissions Policy.

After much deliberation at a number of Board meetings over the past year, the Board has now agreed on a number of changes to the existing policy with a view to offering greater clarity to the parents/guardians of prospective applicants.

Following a period of extensive research and consultation, the Board met on 18th August, 2015, and ratified the revised policy.

The Board remains committed to the principles of equity and transparency in its endeavours to provide the best-possible education to the children of Kilcullen and its environs.
