St John's Church flower festival this weekend
There's a lot happening in Kilcullen this week, but one of the things to definitely make some time for is the 'Stepping Through Time' flower festival at St John's Church, Yellow Bog, writes Brian Byrne.
Coordinated by Adrienne Thompson, the weekend event to mark the bicentenary of the church will run from Friday, open from 10am each day of the weekend, closing at 8pm on the Friday and Saturday and 5pm on the Sunday. Admission to the festival is €8, which goes to parish funds.
The event will conclude with a 'Songs of Praise' at 6pm on Sunday.
According to author and historian James Durney, the present church was erected in the early 1800s on a site which was possibly where a previous church had been built to replace the ancient one beside the round tower of Old Kilcullen.
