Badminton Club end of season update
A lot to report on these past few weeks in the club with a number of players representing the club and county in the Leinster Graded Open and as is the norm KBC once again came out with some silverware, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.
In the Grade 5 Ladies Katherine and Tara were crowned Leinster Champions, while Sean Gordon and his partner with his partner Ian Knight won the Grade 5 Mens. Also worth a mention was Darren Lee who won the Grade 1 Mens Singles.
Lynsey and the Mix 1 team won the Leinster Inter League Title went on to represent the Leinster in the All Ireland Title on Sunday 10 May, they were unfortunately beaten 4-3 to Munster Champions, Lismore Badminton Club. This is such a big achievement for the players, Lynsey, Norrie, Annette,Sinead, Murt, Dave, Darren and Gareth and for the Club. From myself, the committee and the rest of KBC I would just like to say that you have done the club very proud. You guys have taken Badminton in KBC to a new level and it makes people in the club proud to say “we might be a relatively small club but we are KBC who are able to compete with the best of you in Ireland”.
All in all this season Kilcullen Badminton Club have competed in five major opens and in those opens we have been crowned champions no less than 22 times, our Club has also competed in 11 Finals this year between the South West League and Dublin District Cups, where we won 3, lost 4 on sets or points with the remaining finals being very close affairs. This is testament to the dedication, work and skill of the players in our club. Well done to all.
Now as the season comes to a close and this being my final act as PRO there are a few people I would like to thank, firstly Brian Byrne for all the support and coverage given the club in the Kilcullen Diary over the last few years — without this I'm not sure if we would have attracted some of the players we have in the club today.
To Frances and Noel Clare again for all the coverage you have given us in The Bridge which has been amazing, and to Frances who on the few occasions when I needed to be reminded of the upcoming deadline for the articles!!
To PJ Lydon and the staff at the Kilcullen Community Centre for providing and maintaining the wonderful facility we have and which has been commented favourably to me on numerous occasions by members of other clubs and members of the South West League Committee.
I would also like to thank Joe O Connor for all the wonderful trophies that he has provided for us over the last few seasons.
Finally there is only one more group to thank, that’s all the teams, players and their captains. The captains made my job very easy these last two years, giving me the results and how the team played in the match, remember without you guys I'd have nothing to write about. This made the job of PRO so easy for me along with the fact that the teams were so successful, its always easier to put pen to paper when you’re winning!!
Thank you for all the support guys. Signing off!

ED NOTE: From our point of view, just to say thanks to Enda for his diligent provision of stories and pictures. An exemplar to all other PROs. BB
