Albert takes national silver
On Saturday 11 April, Kilcullen man Albert Keenan produced one of his best ever running performances in windy conditions on a tough Phoenix Park 10k course to claim second place in the O/65 category in the Irish National 10k championships.
Albert had some stiff competition and finished a brilliant 594th overall out of 7000 competitors in the Great Ireland Run which incorporated the National 10k.
Albert's longterm aim since taking up athletics competitively was to achieve some success on a national level and now the hard work has paid off. All those winter miles and hard sessions on the track with his club Newbridge AC has brought Albert medals at County and Leinster levels but this was the ultimate step up.
Irish silver medalist Albert now has one goal in mind — to be an Irish champion and his focus now turns to the Irish Half Marathon Championship in early August.
Albert is pictured on Saturday with his son David and fellow Newbridge AC club mates who were also National 10k team silver medalists.
Huge congratulations, Albert, on your great achievement.
