Badminton update

Wednesday 11 February saw Caroline's Divison 3 mix team visit St Brigids in their Dublin District League Clash, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.

Caroline's mix team have had a great start to there season and have won their last two matches, Caroline and her team continued their league campaign with a well earned 3-3 draw. Well done to Caroline and her team.

Thursday 12 February saw two DDL matches played at home in the complex, first out were captain Nicole's Division 9 mix team who hosted Danum. It must be getting boring for Nicole, Maeve, Kasi and Olivier at this stage as they have a one hundred per cent record in the league. Mix 6 again were victors in this one sided affair and trashed Danum 6-0. Well done to the gang who are top of their league table.

Also out Thursday night were Sinead's Division 3 Mix team who played a tough PSLC side. The shuttle didn’t fall the right side of the net for KBCs Mix 2 team and lost the match 5-1 with some very close three setter games which in fairness could have gone either way. All is not lost for Sinead and her team who are second in their group with a match in hand.

Tuesday 17 February KBC's Division 6 Mix 5 captained by Sarah hosted St Judes. The team needed to regroup after their heart-breaking SWL final defeat on sets against Ballinabranna. As Vince Lombardi once said “it's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up” and Mix 5 bounced back with a brilliant 6-2 victory, this win puts KBC Mix 5 on top of their DDL table. It's now in the teams hands whether they make the quarter finals after their impressive league start. Well done to Sarah, Jen,Tara, Helen, Enda, Vincent, Fintan and sub Sean Gordon.

Caroline's Grade 1 Mix team played their last group match in their South West League group. Caroline's team needed a 5-3 win to progress to the semi finals and in this tight, exciting nail biting match the team just fell short, only managing to get a 4-4 draw with their opponents Johnswell. For the team's first year playing at the highest grade in the SW league to be knocking at the door for a semi final spot is such a great achievement. Well done Caroline, Annette Norrie, Lynsey, Dave Mc, Gareth, Darren and sub Vincent Coller.

Finally well done to the Kilcullen Badminton Club members who represented Kildare in the Grade 5 Inter-county League, Captain John Mullen, Sarah Walshe, Tara O’Neill and Nicole Danagher who along with their team-mates have made it to the Grade 5 finals later this month
