Kilcullen's winning paddlers abroad

Kilcullen junior paddler Oisin Farrell competing in Slalom canoeing in Nottingham
The last few weeks have seen club members winning events on the River Tay in Scotland, The National Watersports Centre in Nottingham, England and at home on the Grand Canal in Robertstown, writes Club PRO David McDonnell.

Paddy Fitzgerald joined his wife Mary on the podium with both winning in their respective GP classes on the very fast flowing River Tay near Dundee in Scotland. Dermot Coogan was 3rd in long course GP with his wife Debbie 2nd in the short course GP class. Each paddler was racing the Tay for the first time with a high river level making for testing conditions in the race over 24 miles.

Over in Nottingham, Junior paddler Oisin Farrell produced some fantastic end of season form to win a competitive Div 1 Slalom competition at the National Watersports Centre. Oisin has been a member of the Irish Junior Slalom team for the last number of years and is now stepping up to senior competition from next year. This extremely dedicated young man is one to watch for the future. We wish him the best of luck.

Closer to home members performed well in the season ending marathon race. In K1 Div 4 Ronan Foley was 1st, Lar O’Brien 2nd and Joe Brown 3rd. In K1 Div 5 Aaron Thorpe was 1st and Scott Dignam 2nd. In the Mens GP class Eamon Moran finished 2nd. In Womens GP class Mary Fitzgerald came 1st and Debbie McHugh 2nd. Anthony Whitely was 1st in Boys U18 GP.
