Kilcullen CU in Newbridge service suggestion
Kilcullen Credit Union is among four to be mentioned in a motion by a Sinn Fein councillor suggesting they come together to provide Credit Union facilities in Newbridge, writes Brian Byrne.
At the regular meeting of the Kildare/Newbridge Municipal District this coming week, Cllr Mark Lynch will suggest that Kilcullen CU join with Credit Unions in Kildare Town, Coil Dubh and Rathangan, to provide the facilities.
Newbridge has been without a Credit Union for a year, following the transfer of the business of the former Newbridge Credit Union to Permanent TSB. It had previously been run for several years by a Special Manager appointed by the courts. Efforts for other Credit Unions to take over the institution, including Naas CU, came to nothing.
The Diary is not aware of any direct official communications between the Councillor and the Credit Unions he is referring to in his motion, or whether any of them would be receptive to the idea.
