Junior paddlers doing well


There was more success for paddlers of Kilcullen Canoe Club recently in the National Sprint Kayak Championships and the Junior Liffey Descent, writes David McDonnell.

At the National Sprint Championships Ronan Foley was 1st and Joe Brown 3rd in Boys U15 K1 1000m. Ronan Foley finished 2nd in the Boys U15 K1 200m. Aaron Thorpe was 1st in Boys U14 K1 500m and 200m. James Brown and Nazar Romanov were 2nd and 3rd respectively in Boys U12 K1 500m with James Brown also picking up 3rd in Boys U12 K1 200m. In Junior K2 200m Aaron Thorpe and Ronan Foley finished 1st ahead of clubmates Liam and Joe Brown in 2nd.

The club’s junior paddlers enjoyed success at the Junior Liffey Descent with Oisin Farrell 1st in U18 GP, Alex Cummins and Anthony Whitely 1st in U23 K2, Liam Brown was 2nd in Open Singles. Ronan Foley, Joe Brown and Aaron Thorpe made it a 1-2-3 in U15 K1.

At the Salmon Leap Marathon Race Ronan Foley and Joe Brown finished 2nd and 3rd in Mens K1 Div 4. Aaron Thorpe and Scott Dignam finished 1st and 2nd in Junior Div 5. Dermot Coogan won the Mens GP class. Paddy Fizgerald finished 3rd in the GP class and ahead of his wife Mary who maintained winning form in Womens GP ahead of Alison Miley 2nd and Debbie McHugh 3rd.
