Great War 'Memories Night' this evening

Just a reminder that the Kilcullen Great War Commemoration Group are holding a 'Memory Night' in Kilcullen Community Library at 8pm this evening, Thursday 17 July, writes Iseult O'Donoghue.

We are inviting all members of the community with an interest in, connection to or story about local peoples' involvement in the First World War to come along and commemorate this period of our shared history. We're asking people to bring along any memorabilia or personal effects from the period along with their tales of neighbours or family who lost their lives or returned home from the war.

On the night, Frank Taaffe, well known local historian with a special passion for WW1, will help us to locate our personal stories within the larger context of the conflict. Retired army general John Martin, will facilitate the evening.

Kilcullen and district's contribution to the war will be looked at, including the names of our war dead.

There will also be information available on how to research the period and how to find out about family members who may have been involved.

Everyone welcome, admission free, refreshments provided.
