WEATHER

Showers at first this morning, then mainly dry with sunny spells developing and just isolated showers. Cloud will gradually build from the southwest through the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle following later. Highest temperatures of 7 to 8 degrees, with moderate light to moderate southwesterly winds.

DID YOU KNOW?

More than three-quarters of all plastics produced since 1950 have become waste, according to studies. Approximately 9 per cent has been recycled, 12 per cent incinerated, and the rest has ended up in landfills or the environment. Oil companies, seeing the widespread adoption of electric vehicles challenging their income streams, plan to boost petrochemical production for plastics to an estimated 1.1 billion tonnes annually by 2050, more than double current production.
