Nicholastown gets grant for wildflowers area

Nicholastown Residents Association has been granted €1,350 towards development of the wildflower area on the green, writes Brian Byrne.

The money came from the Public Area Enhancement Scheme announced last March by the Minister for Environment, Community, and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, who yesterday approved projects worth a total of €2.975m across the country.

The wildflower garden was established by the residents two years ago, and Ray Kelly says the funding will help with signage for the area, explaining what wild flowers and grasses are in the section.

The grant was welcomed by Billy Hillis, FG candidate in next week's local elections to Kildare County Council. He said it would enhance the local environment and supports the initiative of community groups like the Nicholastown Residents Association.
