Kilcullen badminton update
There are five matches to report on this week with the Kilcullen teams improving their results with two losses, one draw and two wins, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.
Men 2 had their return DDL fixture against Eire Friends at home on Friday last, 31 January. Eire Friends needed a win to qualify for the QFs while Kilcullen needed a draw to help keep in touch. Eire Friends captain arrived with three subs, a tactic that is totally unknown in the game of Badminton when you are so close to making it to a Quarter Final. These three subs were exceptional and played well, helping to beat a Division 5 KBC team. So it was to be a 4-0 drubbing for Sean and the lads. All is not lost, however, and Kilcullen can still make the QFs if they can beat Lucan and Longwood in their three remaining matches.
Ladies 2 played an away fixture in their DDL against St Raphaels away on 27 January and suffered a 3-1 defeat. This leaves Anna Marie and her team still in a good league position again with games in hand. Hard luck to the Ladies and good luck in your next match.
Tuesday the 28th saw Mix 4 play Nomads at home in their Division 9 DDL match. Nicole, Meave, Olivier and Kasi earned a 2-2 draw, this leaves them second in the Table 1 points behind St Laurences. With four matches played this group can still go any direction with only two points seperating 4th and 1st. Mix 4 play Laurences and a win will surely cement a QF place. Good luck to Olivier and team.
Men 3 played Roundwood away in their DDL Division 6 fixture. It turned out to be a great result for the lads and they came away with a 4-0 victory. This is a great result for captain Vincent and Colin, Kasi and Fintan.
Mix 2 wanted to keep a 100 percent record in their Division 3 League when they hosted Mount Pleasant on Jan 31. The lads got the match off to a great start beating Mt Pleasant men in two sets, the ladies followed suit beating Mt Pleasant ladies in three sets while the mixed pairings of Dave/Norrie and Gareth/Caroline also won their matches in two 2-setter games. Well done to Norrie, Caroline, Gareth and captain Dave on their impressive win and start to their league.
