Badminton update
There are four club matches and one intercounty match to report on this week for KBC, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton CLub. Our first match to report on is DDL Ladies 2 who played away to St Judes on Monday the 10th of Febuary. After KBC’s impressive 3-1 win the week before against St Judes at home the girls found the away fixture a little bit more difficult. An organised St Judes managed to get a 4-0 victory on their home ground.
Ladies 2 then played their second match on Wednesday the 12th against Baldoyle. The Ladies showed great heart and bounced back beating Baldoyle 3-1 in a close fought match, this leaves Anna Marie, Jen, Sarah and Helen mid table with four matches to play. Well done to all.
Mix 2 captained by Dave played their Dublin District League Division 3 match away to Kadka on 11th of Febuary and came away with an excellent 4-0 win. This leaves Mix 2 second in their division with 17 points and only 2 points off table toppers Old Bawn — well done to Dave, Lynsey, Aoife and Alastor who are playing some fantastic badminton at a very high level.
Men 1 captained by Paddy Burke, along with his team of Dave, Gareth and Darren, played a DDL Division 3 match away to Old School on Thursday the 13th of Feburary. It turned out to be a great victory for the KBC lads who ran out 4-0 winners on the night. The lads managed to keep their nerve in some very hard fought and difficult matches and are now also in second positon in the table second only to Mount Pleasant after four matches.
Also a big congratulations has to be given to the Kilcullen Juvenile Badminton club who hosted the West Side Tournament, a competition run by the Lenister Badminton Branch. Over the weekent of the 8th and 9th of Febuary over 120 juveniles from numerous clubs played in our local complex and needless to say the KBC Juveniles won countless medals in their various age groups. To see the winners just check out the Kilcullen juvenile Facebook page.
Finally a quick mention to the KBC players representing their county in the Inter County Leagues. On the Mixed Grade 5 team Kilcullen Badminton Club have five representitives on the team. Well done to Sarah, Anna Marie, Jen, John, Fintan and the only non-KBC member, Niall Doran of St Laurences, who on Sunday 16th of Febuary represented County Kildare and beat Laois in their first match but lost to Meath in their second match. The gang are now waiting on results from other fixture to see if they will progress to the next stage of the competition.
Also well done to Caroline, Aoife, Paddy, Dave and Darren and the only non-KBC player, Sinead Kelly of Kildare, who are representing the Lilly Whites. County Kildare beat Dublin 5-2 but lost to Meath 5-2 and are again waiting on other results to determine the next stage of the competition.
