Badminton update
December proved to be a quiet affair in Kilcullen Badminton Club, writes Enda O’Neill, PRO, KBC, due to some bad weather and festive activities!
Two DDL matches were however played, the first on Thursday the 19th of December with Mens 1 captained by Paddy Burke played away to Boyne in the first outing in their league campaign. Unfortunately the lads lost 3-1 in a hard fought match, hard luck to Paddy, Dave, Gareth and Darren. Good luck to the lads, who have Eire Friends at home on Friday 3rd Jan.
Mens 2 had their first Division 5 League match againist Longwood at home on Friday the 20th Dec and the lads captained by Sean Gordon had a comprehenisve 4-0 victory. In the first game Enda and Vincent beat Longwoods Paddy Hand and Pat Farrely in a tough 3-setter, 21-13, 13-21 and 21-18.The second game between Kilcullens Sean and John and Longwoods John Maguire and Sean Kelly (not the famous cyclist!) was a 2-setter which went in favour to Kilcullens lads 21-17 and 21-18. Enda and Sean then took the thrid game 22-20, 21-16. Kilcullens Vincent and John completed the clean sweep 21-18, 20-22 and 21-18 to finish the match 4-0. Well done to the lads and good luck in the next match on Jan 10th at home to Lucan.
Congrats to Lynsey Walshe and Aoife Trant (pictured above) who won the Ladies Division 3 League in the Christmas Badminton Bonanza which was held in Baldoyle on Dec 28th in Baldoyle. Another great achievement for the girls and the Club.
Finally, best of luck of luck to Colin P Valroy and Aoife Stafford who will represent KBC in the finals of the Mens and U17 Ladies SWL Open Championship being played on the 18th of Jan, this is a great achievement for both players and well done for getting so far.
