Latest from Kilcullen badminton

Nicole Dannagher, Helen Rouse, Anna Marie Cunningham and Sarah Walshe.

Our league and cup outings started this week on Monday 25th of November with KBC Ladies 2 playing in their SW League to Annacurra of Wicklow, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club. Captain Anna Marie Cunningham hoped to continue their league with another win and did so in style winning 4-0 leaving them with back to back wins. They then played a DD Cup R2 match on the 27th against Meaths, Boyne BC, also winning 3-1 and progressing to the Quarter Finals. Well done to Anna Marie, Jen Helen, Sarah and Nicole who subbed in their SW League match to Annacurra.

Ladies 3 captained by Maeve P Valroy and Mens 4 captained by Olivier P Valroy played DD Cup and League matches at home on Tuesday the 26th, both teams having mixed fortunes! Ladies 3 played a strong Raheny team in very close fought DD League match. The 4-0 scorline however doesn’t tell the true story of how close some of the games were. Hard luck to Maeve, Emer, Denise and Orla. Mens 4 however had a great 3-1 win in their DD Cup against PSLC now progressing to round 2 so best of luck to Olivier, Keith Pat and Sudheer in their next outing.

Thursday the 28th saw a second visit to KBC of Sam Magee Irelands mixed and doubles International star. Sam worked with the Ladies 1 and Ladies 3 teams. Both teams really benefited from Sam's coaching and learned a lot about moving efficiently on court in attack and defence and how to kill off a rally and win the point. Well done to the girls and thanks to Sam for coming down to coach us again. Sam's next visit is on December the 17th where he will coach Mens 1 and at this rate hopefully we will be able to rope him in next season to play badminton for the Rags. I’ve been told black and white will really suit him!

Finally, the venue for Mens 1 SWL Final has been set. Paddy, Gareth, Darren and Alastor will play their final on the 4th of December at 8.15pm in Athy Rugby club. All support is welcome so please try make it down to cheer them on. Best of luck lads, hope you get an early Christmas present (in the shape of a cup!) this year.
