Great night at AFC Awards

Kilcullen AFC's inaugural Senior Awards took place on Saturday night last in Bardon's, writes Ray Kelly. A great attendance saw a total of 13-plus awards presented to the two Senior Men's teams and the FAI Junior Cup winning Ladies team.

Men's 1st team awards: Franny Shortt - Player of the Season; Colin Murray - Young Player of the season; Top Scorer Eoghgain Kirby. Men's 2nd Team: Ger Shanahan - Player of the season; Conor O'Sullivan - Young Player of the season; Top scorer - Brian Kelly.

Ladies awards: Player of the season - Emma Hannon; Young Player of the season - Ciara Pembroke; Top scorer - Ciara Pembroke; Players Player of the Year - Jayne Peacocke.

This season the club put forward the Daniel O'Connell Perpetual Trophy for the Ladies Player of the season, in memory of our friend Daniel (Danny) who was our Ladies team manager for a number of years, as well as an ex player and soccer referee. This initial award was presented to Emma Hannon by Daniel's wife Siobhan and daughter Emma. Daniel's daughter, Lisa who couldn't attend, was a member of the team managed by Danny and the club presented the O'Connells with a framed Ladies team photo of Danny, Lisa and the team from a few seasons ago.

The club made a presentation to Tadgh Shanaghan and Eoghain Kirby to mark their managerial achievement of winning the Ladies FAI Junior Cup this season.

Overall a very positive night with all managers recognizing the efforts put in by the three Senior panels and are looking to the start of next season with optimism. (Pics Ray Kelly.)
