Hogan fight to stream in Spout
Kilcullen fans of local boxer Dennis Hogan will be able to watch his fight to become Australian Middleweight Champion live in The Spout Bar on Thursday morning, writes Brian Byrne.
The fight, in Eaton's Hill Hotel in Brisbane, will be key event in a series of fights starting at 10.30am Irish time. Hogan will be fighting Nathan 'King' Carroll for the title in a bout that is also being broadcast live across Australia.
The Kilcullen fighter won his first professional title in Australia in 2011, becoming Queensland Super Middleweight Champion after knocking out Glen Fitzpatrick in the fourth round of a championship bout.
A carpenter by trade, he now lives in Brisbane after going to Australia to make a career in professional boxing. He is being trained by Steve Deller, who encouraged the Kilcullen man to travel down under.
He was Irish Intermediate Champion in 2008/2009, and subsequently cemented a solid amateur career with a Multi Nations gold medal in Israel in 2010 and another International Tournament gold in the same year.
Hogan was a member of the Grange Con Boxing Club as an amateur, and now boxes with the Fortitude Boxing Club as a pro.
Steve Deller saw Hogan fight as an Irish amateur when he first went to Australia in 2009 and offered him the chance of turning pro. After a spell back home again, Hogan took up the offer.
A serious neck injury last year almost stopped his career in its tracks, but Hogan recovered. He has already beaten 'King' Carroll in a Queensland title fight, but his opponent is said to be a much improved fighter since.
Hogan has been undefeated in the 15 fights he has had since turning pro, and the only defeat Carroll has had in 15 fights has been the one against Hogan in Queensland.
