New value shop in town

When Marie and Pat Geraghty opened their latest business in Kilcullen this weekend, they were coming from a solid background in value retailing, writes Brian Byrne.

Pat ran Donal's in Newbridge for 18 years before going out on his own nine years ago, with shops in Athy and Portarlington, and Marie has Card and Party shops in both locations.

"Before that I worked with a man named Paddy Kilkelly, who was probably second in the country in this kind of business after Hector Gray."

The Geraghtys are being helped in the Kilcullen venture by their son Bernard, who is likely to be the face of the local enterprise for some time to come.

In a time of recession such as we have been going through for the last five years, it's always a hopeful sign when a premises that has gone 'dark' is lit up again. We wish the Geraghtys well in Kilcullen.
