Garda station closures 'devastating': Councillor

The closure of Garda stations in Ballytore and Ballymore in South and East Kildare, and Donard and Hollywood in West Wicklow will leave an entire rural community without a garda presence, according the Cllr Martin Miley of Fianna Fail.

The closures were announced this week by the Garda Commissioner, along with Kill Garda Station. Cllr Miley describes it as a 'devastating attack' and will not just impact on policing but also the relationships which local garda build up with community and sports organisations and with young people.

The councillor is calling on Government public representatives in South Kildare to 'force a u-turn' on the closures.
