Kilcullen second in Tidy Towns category in county

Kilcullen came second in the D Category in County Kildare in the National Tidy Towns Results published today, with 269 marks, writes Brian Byrne. This compares to 268 marks and a third category placing in the 2011 competition.

Kill was top in the category with 297 marks, while Sallins achieved 246 marks and Castledermot 230.

Kilmeade was leader in the A Category with 275 marks, Broadford in the B with 285, Straffan in C with 302 (highest marks in the county), Clane in E with 274, Maynooth in F with 281 and Naas in G with 286.

Abbeyshrule was the overall national winner with 312 marks.

It is likely that just gaining one extra mark in Kilcullen despite enormous work being carried out on town improvements, including the Convent wall project and Lower Main Street refurbishing, will disappoint those whose efforts have so enhanced the visual aspect of the town in the last year.
