Kilcullen could link inter-county driving route

Kilcullen could become the 'crossroads' on a planned motoring route being developed jointly by tourism groups in Wicklow and Kildare, writes Brian Byrne.

The restaurants and coffee shops in Kilcullen would be an important attraction for motorists using the route to explore the two counties, the recent meeting of Kilcullen 2017 heard. The Kildare end will include the Gordon Bennett Route signposted in 2003.

Sean Cleary, a director of Kildare Failte, outlined some of the details of the initiative, which would offer many more possibilities through the year than do the commemorative rallies which simply bring enthusiasts to part of the race route for a couple of days every year. He emphasised that the idea was still being developed.

Pictured at the meeting are Orla O'Neill of Kilcullen 2017, with PJ Fagan, Sean Cleary of Kildare Failte, and Paul Carey.

More details are published on the Kilcullen page of this week's Kildare Nationalist.
