Appeal for Tidy Towns effort
Kilcullen Tidy Towns activists have appealed to local estates to help make sure the town maximises its marks potential in the judging for the national and local competitions, writes Brian Byrne.
Chair of Kilcullen Community Action Esther Kiely has issued a set of guidelines to help the effort. KCA is the umbrella group for Kilcullen Tidy Towns and also organises the local prizes which are presented at the Community Awards Night in the autumn.
"It is the time of year when the adjudicators for the National Tidy Towns usually visit," she says. "And the local judges also hope to visit each estate this month to see what work has been started. A second visit will be made during the second half of August to see how work has progressed."
Grassy areas should be regularly cut and edges maintained.
Walls and fences should be clean and if needed freshly painted.
Areas that have been planted with flowers or shrubs should be kept clear of weeds and clipped or pruned as needed.
Footpaths should be kept clear of weeds. There is often a lot of weed seen where the path meets with walls or roads.
All areas must be kept clear of litter.
Esther expressed her thanks to all who who work in the town to help in the annual Tidy Towns effort.
