Bats, birds, and all that
Talks on the bat populations in Kilcullen, and on the wildlife and birds along the Liffey banks in the town will be highlight public events of the Survey of Riverside Life which has just begun, writes Brian Byrne.
The KCA-commissioned Survey, which is being supported by a grant from the Kildare Leader Partnership, will investigate and establish the current biodiversity situation in the town area of the river.
It is being led by ecologist Dr Mary Tubridy with the help of locally-based UCD environmental scientist Jan Robert Baars.
The talk on bats will be given by Dr Tina Aughney on the evening of Friday 22 June and will involve both indoor and outdoor elements. The following morning, Tom Cooney will lead a bird/wildlife walk along the study areas.
The Survey will also look at Pinkeen Stream and the Mill Stream and establish both the biodiversity and the water quality in both locations.
