Canada bluesman for BAG
Matt Andersen is a multi-award winning young Bluesman from Canada, and he's coming our way next Monday, writes Roy Thompson of Ballymore Acoustic Gigs.
The 30-year-old, described as 'Canada's greatest guitarist' by The Times, has been playing guitar since the age of 14. Steeped in a musical family tradition, he discovered blues as a teenager, progressing through Eric Clapton and BB King, on to Chicago electric blues and eventually back to the Mississippi Delta blues.
Matt began to build his name on the Canadian circuit, his imposing voice and slashing slide guitar making a huge impression on audiences. Debuting in 2002 with his album 'One Size Never Fits' he has released five further albums. His newest, 'Coal Mining Blues', was produced by Colin Linden (who co-wrote and plays on several tunes) and recorded at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, New York. Featuring the Band keyboardist Garth Hudson and Olabelle singer Amy Helm, it’s a rich vein of new songs, many addressing the trying lives of working people. I've been listening to it for the past couple of weeks and its a cracker.
So, come on out and see this acclaimed young Bluesman in action in Ballymore next Monday, March 5, 9pm sharp, €12.
