Halverstown NS lands hi-tech project
St Joseph's NS in Halverstown has been chosen as one of 20 schools in the country to participate in a pilot technology project which will involve pupils 'building' in a virtual island in the internet 'cloud', writes Brian Byrne.
Aimed at challenging pupils with High Intellectual Potential to maximise their abilities, the participants in 'MissionV Education 20 Schools Project' will engage the many skills they have encountered and learnt, such as maths, science, history, and geography.
The project is supported by the National Centre for Technology in Education.
Each school involved will be asked to participate in the virtual National Science Week Event 2011, supported by Discover Science and Engineering. During this, children will have the opportunity to design, build and program an interactive model under the theme 'The Chemistry of Life'.
The models will then be exhibited in the MissionV Learning Hub, a dedicated virtual exhibition hall during National Science Week which begins November 13.
