Talk on making digital heritage maps

Transition year students at CPC were shown last week how to use everyday technology such as smartphones, GPS instruments and digital cameras to build digitised local heritage maps, writes Brian Byrne.

The talk was given by John Tierney of Eachtra Archaeological Projects, whose company works as consultants to many planning, development and construction processes.

A group of CPC students have been working on a project in Kilcullen's graveyards since September, mapping and cataloguing older graves under the direction of Des Travers, a retired Irish Army General from Kilcullen.

The full story will feature in next week's Kildare Nationalist.
