OK tower signs to be replaced

Signs for the Tower of Old Kilcullen on the Athy Road are to be restored following representations from Cllr Martin Heydon.

The signs had been taken down during work at the new junction related to the M9 extension works, and hadn't been put back again.

After raising the matter at the July meeting of the Athy Area Committee, Cllr Heydon was assured by the local area engineer that the signs will be replaced.

"The Round Tower at Old Kilcullen is one of the best tourist attractions that we have in the area," Cllr Heydon says. "Yet anybody looking to visit it at present has quite a job finding the right road to take, that will lead to the tower and graveyard."

Cllr Heydon welcomed the commitment.
