Heydon new area chair

Cllr Martin Heydon has been selected as Chairman of the Kildare County Council Athy Area Committee.

Speaking after the monthly meeting today, Cllr Heydon said it was 'an honor' to be selected to chair the Athy Area Committee for the next year.

Since last year's local elections the Athy district has expanded to take in parts of Kilcullen, Ballymore Eustace, Nurney and Kildangan on top of the old three-seat district that served Athy, Castledermot and the surrounding hinterland.

"I look forward to being a driving force for the area committee and to ensure that issues in the south of Kildare are well represented at full council level," he said.

He thanked the outgoing chairman Cllr Wall and said that he looked forward to working with his fellow councillors in the Athy district.
